Dr. Vaughan created the first GU Energy Gel to help his daughter, an ultra-marathoner, reach her optimal performance, when the only choice at the time was an energy bar that more closely resembled a sawdust brick than food. These energy bars not only tasted bad, but were difficult to digest during training and races. The unnecessary ingredients caused G/I problems, and in-turn diverted oxygen rich blood from the muscles – ultimately limiting his daughter’s performance.
Dr. Vaughan’s revolutionary gel created an alternative food that housed only the critical carbohydrates for energy, and essential amino acids for muscle support. This gooey food, which the body could absorb in seconds, was aptly named GU Energy Gel.
Fast forward 20+ years and innovation continues to be the focal point at GU Energy Labs, where they’ve created new gels, chews, drinks, capsules and more.
