Impact’s Strategic Partnership with Rakuten Advertising Network

Impact’s Strategic Partnership with Rakuten Advertising Network

This morning, Impact.com announced a strategic partnership with Rakuten Advertising, bringing Rakuten in as a service provider within Impact’s affiliate marketing platform ecosystem. Under this partnership, Rakuten will operate more like an affiliate marketing agency, managing existing affiliate programs directly on the Impact platform.

What does this mean for advertisers?

Advertisers currently running affiliate programs on the Rakuten Advertising Network (RAN) will be migrated to Impact’s affiliate marketing platform, giving them full access to Impact’s advanced partnership automation technology, tracking capabilities, and performance marketing tools. Impact expects Rakuten advertisers to begin the affiliate platform migration process this summer.

For brands, this represents a major shift toward modern affiliate program management, improved attribution, and scalable partnership growth.

Our perspective on the Rakuten + Impact partnership

Impact is widely recognized as the technology leader in affiliate marketing and partnership automation. Rakuten likely faced a pivotal decision: invest heavily to close the affiliate platform technology gap, or form a strategic partnership with a leading affiliate software provider.

While speculative, it’s likely that Rakuten Advertising Network (RAN) has faced increasing competitive pressure, losing new business to Impact and seeing existing advertisers explore affiliate network migration services over the past several years.

What this means for brands considering migration

This announcement will accelerate demand for:

  • Rakuten to Impact migration services
  • Affiliate program transition support
  • Full-service affiliate marketing agencies
  • Partnership program strategy and optimization

Advertisers will need guidance on account migration, partner onboarding, and performance optimization to ensure a seamless transition.  At Clique our Summit strategy focuses on these exact needs. We offer an affiliate program migration service and have a history of successfully migrating programs to Impact.

Is this just the beginning of affiliate network consolidation?

Is this a signal of where the affiliate marketing industry is heading? The growing demand for AI-driven affiliate marketing, advanced tracking, and partnership automation technology will only increase pressure on legacy networks to evolve.

This raises an important question: if consolidation around leading affiliate platforms like Impact continues, who’s next?
